Update: Buick releases second Invicta teaser

Update:
Buick has released a second teaser for its upcoming Invicta sedan concept that’s set to appear at this month’s Beijing Auto Show. The new image doesn’t reveal any significant details except for the shape of the headlights, which appear to have a tapered back look. The new concept was jointly developed by design studios both in China and the U.S. and is said to represent the future look of the Buick brand.

Original: Coming April 19th to the Beijing Motor Show, the Buick Invicta purports to take Buick a step closer to a premium car design that will appeal to the international market. Why the company is taking just a step when it could ostensibly go the whole way is a mystery, and so too is the Invicta, although the teaser released today gives us the profile and belt line of the upcoming concept.Built on the back of the successful Riviera concept shown in Shanghai last year, the Invicta inches closer to a global design, and yet remains true to its American roots by including details that are classically Buick, like the ‘waterfall’ grille and and the curved ’sweepspear’ belt line. Whether international audiences – or those at home – will agree with Buick’s direction remains to be seen. Taken generally, and from the side only, it reminds us a bit of the Bentley Continental GT – and that’s not a bad thing.Buick says the Invicta is also the result of a fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, and that “the result will set a new design standard for Buick, and it couldn’t have been achieved by one studio working in isolation. The Invicta represents another significant design milestone in Buick’s history.” That’s some pretty big talk. Let’s hope the Invicta can shoulder the burden.
