WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The general public is invited to purchase used vehicles from Purdue University’s Transportation Service.
Transportation Service has scheduled a sealed-bid sale to dispose of cars and vans that have been replaced by newer vehicles. The vehicles will be available for viewing from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 3 and 4 and from 8-11 a.m. March 5. Vehicles will be parked at the Transportation Maintenance Building, 1175 Harrison St. Buyers may bid on more than one vehicle but can make only one bid per vehicle. Bids must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. on March 7.
“We are always looking for ways to reduce costs and make the best use of our resources. This sale is an effort to reduce the expenses associated with the rental fleet,” said Carol Cox, director of Transportation Service. We have received public inquiries wanting to purchase our used fleet vehicles, and we are pleased that we can again offer this opportunity.”
More than 50 cars and vans will be offered for sale. The sale vehicles include 2008 and 2009 model year flex-fuel Impalas, 2007 and 2008 Chevrolet Uplander minivans, a 2003 Venture minivan, 2000-2005 Chevrolet Astro vans, 2005-2007 Chevrolet Express 1500 vans, 2004-2006 Chevrolet Express 2500 vans, and a 1997 Ford F150 pickup truck. Five of the Chevrolet Express vans are equipped with towing packages. In addition, the sale will include a 1993 Chevrolet G30 van equipped with a wheelchair lift. Mileages range from 50,000-95,000 miles. While looking at the cars and vans, potential buyers will receive information on year, make, model, mileage, and estimated wholesale and retail values.

Successful bidders will be notified beginning March 8. Those with winning bids will be able to test drive vehicles before purchasing them. Every vehicle will be sold as is, without warranties of any kind. Payment will be due to the university within 48 hours of acceptance of the bid.
